"A coach’s job is to challenge their players, inspire them to be better than they thought they could be, and help them see greatness within themselves."

Anson Dorrance

BYU SPORTS CAMPS

Youth Soccer Camp Mentor

At Brigham Young University's Soccer Camp, I had the rewarding opportunity to mentor over 70 young athletes, blending skill-building with fun and teamwork. Collaborating with camp organizers, I created engaging, age-appropriate drills that nurtured both the technical and social growth of each camper. One of my favorite challenges was keeping younger players excited and focused—something I tackled by weaving creativity and energy into every activity, ensuring every child felt encouraged and part of the team.

Beyond the field, I connected with parents to share their child’s progress and celebrate milestones, fostering trust and a sense of community. These moments of interaction not only built lasting relationships but also highlighted the impact of teamwork, mentorship, and thoughtful communication in creating meaningful experiences for both campers and their families.

Processes and Tools

  • Applied Experience Design frameworks to tailor activities to different age groups, ensuring developmental appropriateness.

  • Used team collaboration tools (e.g., Google Docs, shared calendars) to coordinate with camp organizers and manage activities.

  • Implemented feedback loops by communicating with parents, gathering insights, and adjusting activities to maximize camper satisfaction.
